Passive explosion isolation systems

A product of FIKE

Product Outline

Isolation systems prevent dust explosions from spreading from one area to another, thereby eliminating the possibility of secondary explosions.

Designing insulation systems with Fike
Each explosion isolation system is custom designed to reduce the specific risk and meet the requirements of your application and business based on risk factors, the facilities to be protected, the interconnected equipment, its location, and regulatory and operational conditions.

Fike's qualified personnel prepare a complete system design taking into account the following parameters:

  • Types of detectors and isolators, their quantity and installation location.
  • System operation and activation settings.
  • The reduced total pressure.

This data can be used to:

  • Guide your assembly crew or contractor.
  • Determine the ability of your equipment to withstand recoil forces that may arise in the event of an explosion.
  • The final system design document can be incorporated into your explosion protection and hazard files and presented in the event of an inspection.

What advantages does passive explosion isolation provide?
During normal operation, passive isolation devices are held open by the process flow or by a spring-loaded retention device. In the event of a deflagration, they are automatically closed by the pressure wave, so they do not require any detection system to be activated.

  • They are usually the most economical explosion isolation solution.
  • They do not require electronic detection systems.
  • Normally, its installation does not require specially trained personnel.
  • Maintenance requirements are minimal and easy to meet, significantly reducing downtime.
  • They can be combined with active insulation systems.
